Privacy Policy
Leafyear is a private place for your years. This policy explains, in plain words, what happens to everything you put into it.
Effective 14 October 2026Leafyear 1.0 for iPhone and iPad
- We collect nothing.
No account, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. Leafyear has no server of its own.
- Your journal stays yours.
It lives on your devices and in your own iCloud, where we can't read it.
- Extras ask first.
Location for the weather, reminders and Face ID stay off until you turn them on.
- You're in control.
Export everything, or delete it, at any time, right in the app.
01About this policy
Leafyear is an app for iPhone and iPad made by an independent developer (“we” or “us”). This policy covers the Leafyear app, its widgets and this website, wherever you use them.
02What we collect
Nothing. Leafyear doesn't send your information to us or to anyone working with us. There is no Leafyear account to create and no Leafyear server for anything to go to. That is why Leafyear's privacy label on the App Store reads Data Not Collected.
Leafyear connects to only two services, both run by Apple, and only to do what you asked:
03What stays on your device
Everything you put into Leafyear is kept by the app itself:
- Your answers
- The year you were born and the lifespan you choose.
- This device
- Your settings
- Hemisphere, sky, sound, reminders and language, and your choice for the lock.
- This device
- Your journal
- Memories and their photos, a word for each year, weekly reflections and their moods, loved ones (name, relationship, birth year and how often you see each other) and your time together, dreams, and letters to your future self.
- This deviceYour iCloud
- For your widgets
- Your birth year and lifespan, this week's questions and when your next letter opens. While your journal isn't locked, also the name of one loved one and this year's moods.
- Leafyear's widgets only
- The last weather report
- The kind of weather and when it was observed, never where. Kept only while Weather where you are is on.
- This device
Like other app data, this is included in your device's backups to iCloud or to a computer, if you have backups turned on.
04iCloud
When you're signed in to iCloud and iCloud is on for Leafyear, your journal is kept in Leafyear's private database in your own iCloud account, so it's there on your other iPhone or iPad. Only you, signed in with your Apple Account, can reach it. We can't see, read or recover it. iCloud is provided by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy.
Your answers and settings are not synced: each device keeps its own.
To keep your journal on one device only, turn off Leafyear in the Settings app under your name › iCloud. In Leafyear's settings, Journal › iCloud shows whether your journal is syncing.
05Features that ask first
These features are off until you turn them on. Each asks for permission the first time, and you can turn it off again at any time.
06Your moods
The mood you choose each week is part of your journal (section 3). It stays on your devices and in your own iCloud with the rest of it, and Leafyear doesn't send it to any other app or service.
We never use your moods for advertising, marketing or anything other than showing you your own journal.
07Sharing
We don't sell, rent or share your information with anyone, and Leafyear contains no third-party code for analytics, advertising or anything else. No third party receives your information from us. Apple provides iCloud, Apple Weather, Siri and Face ID under its own Privacy Policy.
What you share yourself
- Share cards: an image of your tree or your year, made on your device when you tap Share. Where it goes is up to you.
- Export: your whole journal in one zip file (JSON and Markdown, with your photos), made when you tap Export journal. Leafyear deletes its temporary copy when you close the share sheet.
08Siri and Shortcuts
When you ask Siri or run a shortcut, Apple handles your request under its Privacy Policy, and Leafyear receives only what it needs, such as the memory you dictate. Adding a memory or asking about a loved one works only while your device is unlocked.
09Crash reports from Apple
If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers (Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements › Share With App Developers), Apple may send us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics about Leafyear. We use them only to fix problems. They don't identify you, and you can turn this off at any time in the same place.
10Keeping and deleting your information
Leafyear keeps your information until you delete it. You can delete all of it in the app:
- One entry: swipe left on a memory, dream, letter or loved one, or open it and delete it.
- Your whole journal: Settings › Journal › Delete journal removes it from this device and from your iCloud. Your tree stays.
- Your answers: Settings › Start over › Forget my answers removes your birth year and lifespan.
- The app: deleting Leafyear removes everything it kept on that device. The copy in your iCloud stays until you delete your journal in Leafyear first, or delete Leafyear's data in the Settings app under your name › iCloud › Manage Account Storage.
To withdraw a permission, turn the feature off (section 5).
Because we don't hold any of your information, we can't look at it, change it or delete it for you. If you need help doing it yourself, write to us.
11Your rights
Depending on where you live, privacy laws such as the GDPR in the EU and UK, the CCPA in California and Vietnam's personal data protection law give you rights over your personal data: to access it, correct it, delete it, take a copy, or object to how it's used. With Leafyear you can do all of this yourself, in the app: read and edit everything, export it, and delete it. We don't sell or share personal information, as the CCPA defines those terms.
12Security
What Leafyear keeps on your device is protected by the encryption built into iOS and iPadOS when your device has a passcode, and your journal in iCloud by Apple's iCloud security. To keep what you wrote private from anyone who picks up your device, lock your journal with Face ID (section 5).
13Children
Leafyear doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 or under the minimum age where they live.
14This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics or tracking, and loads nothing from other sites. It is hosted by GitHub Pages, which may log visitors' IP addresses for security, under the GitHub General Privacy Statement.
15Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll post the new version on this page with a new effective date. If a change affects what happens to your information, we'll also say so in the App Store notes for that version of Leafyear.
